After completing your studies in Canada, international students may be eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). This permit allows graduates to work legally in Canada and can support future Permanent Residency (PR) pathways.
π€ Who Can Apply for PGWP?
To apply for a PGWP, students must meet all eligibility requirements.
β General Eligibility Requirements
You meet the general eligibility requirements to apply for a PGWP if:
β’ You completed a program of study at a PGWP-eligible Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
β’ Your program was at least 8 months long
(For Quebec programs: minimum 900 hours)
β’ You maintained full-time student status during each academic semester
(Part-time study is allowed in the final semester only)
β’ You applied for your PGWP within 180 days of receiving written confirmation that you completed your program
β’ Your study permit was valid at some point during the 180 days after graduation and before submitting your PGWP application

PGWP eligibility may vary depending on:
β’ Graduates who completed their studies inside Canada
β’ Graduates who completed their studies outside Canada
β’ Field of study requirements, where applicable
β³ PGWP Validity Period
The length of the PGWP depends on the duration of your study program:
β’ Programs of 8 months to less than 2 years β PGWP valid for the same length as the program
β’ Programs of 2 years or more β PGWP valid for up to 3 years
