Recently, IRCC shared that the early results of their efforts to refocus the International Student Program on attracting the very best students have been encouraging. While overall international student admissions are decreasing, the proportion of students arriving to study at universities is significantly increasing.
According to the latest IRCC statistics:
- University students accounted for 46% of new student arrivals in 2026 (January to August), up from 29% in 2024.
- Master’s and doctoral (PhD) degree students now make up 20% of new study permits issued during the same period.
